Paul Lambert was full of praise for his opposition number Pep Guardiola, ahead of Stoke City’s match against Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Scot said that the Etihad boss was ‘probably the best manager around at the moment’ as he prepares to welcome him to the Bet365 Stadium on Monday evening.
“We know we’re not just up against the top side in England but one of the top in Europe too,” the Potters boss said.
“I think they’re a fabulous football team. I’ve been fortunate to meet him [Guardiola] a few times and I can understand why he’s at the top of his profession.
“It’s not just a case of Manchester City having spent a lot of money. He’s also got to go and manage them and get the style that he wants to play.
“He’s been at three incredible football clubs [Barcelona and Bayern Munich before joining City] so I’ve got big respect for him as a football manager.”
Lambert feels that City’s players will have learnt a lot from their experience around Guardiola.
“The other clubs he’s been at, he made their players better as well. Bayern Munich were relentless in the Bundesliga and Barcelona were the same in La Liga.
Stoke go into Monday’s game against the league leaders on the back of a good run of form since Lambert took over from Mark Hughes in January, having only lost one of the Scot’s six matches in charge.
