Two goals from Jordan Bowery and one from Charlie Kirk helped Crewe Alexandra climb above Port Vale in League 2 to boost their survival hopes.
The victory, combined with Vale’s 1-0 defeat to Exeter sees Crewe leapfrog them into 19th position now sitting two points ahead of Port Vale with eight games left of the season.
The game started fairly evenly with a couple of chances for both sides, but it was always Alexandra that looked the more threatening side with Callum Ainley running riot down the right wing and Bowery a constant threat up top.
Cameron Belford did well to tip an effort from Harry Pickering onto the post but the make-shift left back eventually made Forest Green pay with a free kick onto the head of Bowery who nodded it into the Rovers goal.
Straight after the re-start Harry McKirdy should have scored again for Crewe but he managed to chip both Belford and the crossbar with his effort.
Crewe then scored two in the space of two minutes with Charlie Kirk driving low into the far corner and then Bowery doubled his tally, shooting low into the corner off the post.
Dayle Grubb grabbed a consolation goal for Forest Green on 64 minutes, but Crewe held on for a well earned victory.
