Stoke-on-Trent to host exhibition celebrating new artists

Three Staffordshire University artists have been chosen to display their work in the New Art West Midlands exhibition.

Since starting six years ago, the project has become important in developing the careers of many up and coming artists.

The three students who were chosen from Staffordshire University were Keri Jayne, Lewis Pritchard and Louise Hampson.

Louise Hampson said: “Being chosen to take part is the icing on the cake after achieving a first-class honours degree and it shows recognition of all the hard work that I had put in to becoming an artist.”

In the past, exhibitors have had their work purchased and even gone on to show their work in solo exhibitions.

Staffordshire University Professor of Fine Art and Social Practice, Anna Francis, said: “Since 2013, our graduates have continually achieved success within the New Art West Midlands project.

“This has brought important early career opportunities and supported our graduates to make significant connections across the region.”

Stoke-On-Trent is one of the chosen cities to host the exhibition and it will be held in Hanley’s AirSpace Gallery from February 23 to March 31.

The exhibition will also be shown in other galleries across the West Midlands.
