A 48-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was left in hospital with multiple stab wounds.

Paul Smith, of Heathcote Road, Longton, was arrested by North Wales Police in Queensferry, Flintshire, on Tuesday (January 30).

The arrest followed the incident that happened around 2pm at an address in Foley Road, Longton, where a woman sustained multiple knife wounds.

Smith appeared before magistrates at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (February 1).

He is charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a kitchen knife, and the breach of a restraining order.

The 37-year-old woman is described as stable and recovering at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
