Uttoxeter Races launches its 2018 programme today, with Executive Director David MacDonald saying it is an exciting time for the racecourse.
Irish trainer Jonjo O’Neill has two horses at the six-race first meeting of the year at Uttoxeter today.
O’Neill’s Bahama Moon will run in the 1:45pm, with his second horse Timeforwest, ridden by Killian Moore, in the 3:30pm.
Macdonald isn’t worried about about the state of the ground, despite the recent rain. “It’s a shame that at the moment the ground is quite heavy. We’re keeping an eye on the weather, but it looks as though we’ll be safe on Saturday. We’re raceable at the moment and we’re looking forward to getting going.”
Macdonald claimed that “It’s always exciting when you make a fresh start with all our plans starting to fall in place.”
MacDonald says that this years Midlands Grand National is looking to be the best ever. “We’ve got two Saturday meetings. One in January and one in February and then the big one which is already looking to be a record breaker. so its nice to get underway.”
MacDonald also spoke about this years future plans. much of the exictement surrounds their seperate Ladies Day and Ladies Night meetings. They feature Mel C, of Spice Girls fame, DJing after racing on their Ladies Night on June 14th. As well as Gok Wan DJing after racing is done on their Ladies Day, on July 27th.
Today’s meeting has six races, the first race at 1:45pm and the last at 4:30pm.
