500 jobs to be cut as General Electric plan factory closure

General Electric has announced plans to cut 500 jobs and close a factory in Stafford

The Stafford branch is part of 1,100 jobs that will be cut across the UK and 10,000 across the globe, in an attempt to take out $1 billion in structural costs.

GE are blaming the losses on the slowing demand for fossil-fueled power.

One of the four factories in Stafford is being closed, but 800 jobs will remain, keeping GE as one of Stafford’s biggest employers.

Another 600 jobs are to be lost at a separate factory in Rugby.
