The Band: Review

When you’re already a massive fan of Take That, a musical featuring their music has a lot to live up to – The Band didn’t disappoint.

The musical follows the story of five young girls who are massive fans of The Band. You see the ups and downs of their lives, leading into adulthood. The show is filled with so many emotions and its surprising how invested in the story you become.

There is a lot of humour, mainly coming from a young, Heather Carter (Katy Clayton). However, there is also a lot of sadness so I advise taking tissues!

The soundtrack featured Take That favourites including ‘Pray’ and ‘Shine’. The boys in The Band (AJ Bentley, Harry Brown, Curtis T Johns, Sario Solomon and Yazdan Qafouri) didn’t try to copy what had already been done. Instead, they put a fresh spin on the songs, making them their own.

The use of the stage is incredible, and something that I’ve never seen before. There are people popping up all over the place and objects are turned into something else, just by flipping them over. Who knew a bedroom could turn into a plane?

The finale of this musical is something I will never forget. But no spoilers here, go and watch it yourself and find out!

The Band is on tour across the UK and is at the Regent Theatre, Stoke until Saturday 9 December. Visit ATG for more details and tickets.
