Staffordshire Police are investigating a serious assault which left a 30-year-old man with serious head and facial injuries.
The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday (November 11) in Hanley.
The victim left Reflex Bar at 3.20am and is believed to have been followed by a group of five men.
He was then repeatedly kicked and punched to the ground in Stafford Street, close to the junction with Trinity Street.
The victim remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.
Detective Constable Liam Rider said: “This was a very serious, unprovoked assault on a man who was doing nothing more than enjoying a night out with his friends in the city centre.
“We would urge anyone who saw what happened, or who might have any information about what happened, to contact us.
“We are particularly keen to speak to a man who asked a female passer-by for her mobile phone so that he could phone for an ambulance for the victim.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote incident 98 of 11/11/2017 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
