Longton army veteran jailed for series of sexual assaults

An army veteran from Longton has been jailed for a series of sexual assaults on a woman, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard.

Brian Simm, 39, of Uttoxeter Road, Longton, was sentenced for six different counts of sexual assault.

He was given a concurrent sentence of two years and 10 years on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Prosecuting, Jonathan Dickinson told the court: “He was a man who left school at 16 and joined the army.

“He served in Bosnia during his time there.

“It seems he was a person of very good character and he has now lost all of that.”

Elizabeth Power, defending Simm, said: “Simm’s main focus in life has always been his son and he has showed great maturity in dealing with this.”

Jailing Simm, Recorder David Mason QC told the court: “This is no doubt a difficult case.

“I will take into account you’re 39 and you have never been in trouble before this.

“The difficulty is that this is not a one-off incident but a build up, admittedly over a short time, of incidents.”
