Longton Rugby Club blindside flanker Mikey Allen says the squad have responded well in training this week following their 72-0 defeat to Sandbach last weekend.
The game was an even affair in the opening 30 minutes, but nine converted tries in the remaining 50 was enough to send the visiting team home defeated and disappointed.
Longton currently lie ninth in the Midlands Premier Division.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s home game against Birmingham & Solihull, Allen says everybody has got the right mentality to bounce back from a difficult result.
He said: “It would be very easy for us to sit there and point fingers at one another, but everybody’s taken a good look at themselves and thought we’ll pull together and get through this rough patch of form.
“We’ve got some big teams coming up and if we go into those games with the attitude of being down and out, we’re going to get the same kind of result.
“We’ve got to be positive going forward.”
Longton are under no illusions of the challenge they’re facing, with high-spending Birmingham & Solihull currently undefeated in their opening six matches.
Allen is optimistic about his side’s chances, looking to the possibility of picking up a losing bonus point and admitting they’ve got nothing to lose going into the game.
“If we can manage to pick up a losing bonus point then it’s a result for us,” said Allen. “They’re a good side, and we know what they’re going to bring. They’re going to bring a lot of physicality and a lot of pace.
“Luckily we’re all pretty physical! We’ve got a good physical side to put out so I’m not too worried”
“Mentally we’ll all be there because we know the challenge is coming.”
