A state-funded school in Trent Vale is asking parents to make financial contributions.
A letter was sent to the parents of children attending St Joseph’s college asking them to donate £60 per term per child.
This payment is requested in addition to pre-existing fees charged by the school to help fund trips and vocational subjects such as Design Technology.
However, the school says that the donation is optional and is designed to help fill a £300,000 funding gap.
Teaching unions warned parents that schools across Staffordshire and Cheshire could face a £68 million funding shortfall, last February.
This announcement follows a nationwide trend of parents contributing to their children’s education as funding cuts force schools to save money and tighten budgets.
