Teams of pancake flippers raced to victory in Stafford’s annual Pancake Day race.
A total of 14 teams from businesses and charities crowded into Market Square to show off their skills on Shrove Tuesday.
Teams of four competed in the pancake relay race to be crowned the Best Flipper in Town, in which every team member had to toss their pancake four times during each lap.
The Swan Hotel team won the coveted frying pan trophy for the second year in a row.
Second place went to to Carthy Accountants team and in third place was a quartet from the Bear Grill restaurant.
The wooden spoon went to Stafford Tiles and Flooring Team.
Andy Collins, 22, flipper from the winning team said: “It feels great to win, training every week for months, putting time and effort, getting up early – that’s what it is all about – flipping pancakes!”
Stafford Borough Council Mayor Geoffrey Collier said the cold weather did not deter the pancake flippers.
He said: “I think it went very very well, unfortunately it is the wrong time of the year, today it is so cold.
“But we are lucky it isn’t raining.
“If it was yesterday it would have been awful but today it is fantastic! ”
The annual Pancake Day race has been running in the town since 2006.
