Macclesfield Town manager John Askey confident about Torquay fixture

Macclesfield Town manager John Askey thinks that his side have a good chance against Torquay because of the confidence of his players.

Askey admits the game is a big one but thinks his side will come out on top against the Gulls.

“We’ve done well since the new year,” said Askey.

“It’s another big game for us, as they all are now until the end of the season so hopefully we can perform as we have been doing.”

The manager said that the side are on the up heading into this game and they have a knack for grinding out results.

“They should be full of confidence.

“It’s finding ways to win games even when we aren’t at our best, which is a good sign, so hopefully we can keep that going.

“It’s about winning, you know, performances go out the window.

“Having said that, I think the majority of the season, we have performed well, there’s not many games that I haven’t been proud of.”

Macclesfield are currently sitting in 9th place in the league but will rise up the table if the game goes their way this weekend.

“It’s what you want, obviously, each week it changes, you don’t get too carried away and all that matters now is the Torquay game.

“If we manage to win that, and the result go our way, we’ll be in a better position so it’s one that we are all looking forward to.”

Askey believes that Torquay have made some good additions to their side in the January transfer window and that may cause a problem for Silkmen.

“They are stronger than what they were before Christmas and you look at their team and wonder why they are down there because they’ve got some decent players.

“As we’ve said in the past, whoever we play, no matter who their players are, we will always have a chance if we perform.”
