Longton face a tricky trip to the Second City for their National League 3 Midlands clash with Birmingham Solihull this Saturday.
Longton’s opponents sit 16-points ahead of the Staffordshire club in fourth place and are firmly in the hunt to catch leaders Nuneaton, while George Glenn’s men are currently tenth.
However, Longton can take some optimism from last week’s 20-5 win over Bedford Athletic with Fijian Jone Nabetelebu scoring a try while adding ten more points with the boot in a comfortable victory.
Another positive is that Birmingham Solihull went down 36-12 to Staffordshire outfit Lichfield last weekend, who currently sit just a point above Longton.
The last time these two sides met, Longton ran out 22-11 winners back in October but since then, Glenn’s side have won just four league games.
Elsewhere, Stoke travel to Wolverhampton for their Midlands 1 West fixture where a win could see them leapfrog their opponents in the table.
Graham Smith’s side currently lie tenth in the sixth tier of English rugby, with Wolverhampton two points ahead of them in eighth and Hereford sandwiched in between.
With Hereford travelling to high-flying Dudley-Kingswinford, Stoke could end up as high as seventh if results go their way.
And Smith will be confident of a win, having narrowly missed out on a bonus point in their 20-3 win over Whitchurch last Saturday after being denied two late tries by the officials.
Elsewhere in Midlands 2 West (North), Leek host local rivals Newcastle as they go in search of a tenth straight win.
Newcastle will be looking to build on last week’s 27-25 victory over Kidderminster – just their fifth win in the league all season.
Meanwhile, Stafford will be looking to bounce back from a 26-0 destruction at the hands of leaders Stourbridge Lions as they travel to Tamworth.
All matches kick-off at 2:15 this Saturday.
