Assistant manager Michael Brown won’t take any risks when Port Vale face Stevenage in the FA Cup this weekend.
Top scorer Alex Jones is still out, while Anton Forrester is out with a recurring hamstring injury and Ben Purkiss could also miss the game with a shoulder injury.
However, Martin Paterson returns after missing out at the weekend with a calf problem.
“Certainly, it was just precautionary at the weekend,” Brown said when asked about the striker’s availability.
“Alex is progressing nicely he’s still got some problems with his knee but we might have him in the build up tomorrow.
“Purkiss has got more chance than Anton. We have to give him that extra bit of training because of the reoccurrence of the injury, so maybe another full week and possibly a reserve game.”
The Valiants will face Stevenage for the first time since their relegation to League Two and Brown believes they will come to play football.
“Make no mistake they’re going to come here and make it their Cup final and they are going to make it a tough game,” he said ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.
“I think they will come and play they aren’t afraid to be direct when they need to be. They won’t overplay but they will have some nice rotations and try to pass forward quickly so we are looking forward to the game.”
