Nantwich boxer Nathan Gorman will fight on Frank Warren’s ‘A Little Less Conversation’ bill in Cardiff this Saturday live on BoxNation, on the back of what he has stated was his ‘best camp’ in training.
The 6-0 heavyweight – who is trained and promoted by British boxing legend Ricky Hatton – faces Croatian boxer Igor Mihaljevic at the Motorpoint Arena on a huge card following his emphatic first round knockout victory over David Howe to win the Central Area heavyweight title at Fenton Manor Sports Complex last month.
Speaking prior to Saturday’s bout, 20-year old Gorman acknowledged how well his recent training camp has gone and just how big the Cardiff show is: “I have had a good camp – it has been an eight week camp and I have had loads of sparring.
“I have done an excess amount of rounds. It has been a hard camp but it has been the best camp I have had.
“I have been doing some rounds with David Price, I have been sparring Matty Askin and I have done some rounds with other pro lads as well.
“Every boxing fan will be tuning in and watching this card so it’s a big platform. If I put on a show, I will hopefully be back out there again.”
Gorman also stated his intent to go after the English heavyweight title next year, but is aware that he cannot look too far into the future.
He said: “I want a shot at the English title but I have to win on Saturday first, and obviously just take each fight as it comes.”
Gorman’s opponent Mihaljevic is coming off the back of back-to-back wins, including a stoppage victory over Tom Dallas, and Gorman is well-aware of the Croatian’s strengths and style.
When talking about Mihaljevic he said: “He is a come forward fighter. He knocked out Tom Dallas so he is willing to have a go. He isn’t going to run – he will sit there and trade shots.”
