Stoke City’s Joe Allen and Marko Arnautovic score goals in Austria v Wales World Cup qualifier

Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen scored a screamer before coming off injured and Marko Arnautovic netted twice as Wales drew 2-2 in their World Cup qualifier in Austria.

Allen, who has now scored three goals in as many games for club and country, struck a half volley home from the edge of the box, whilst winger Arnautovic scored a header and coolly converted a one-on-one past keeper Wayne Hennessey for his second.

A Stoke City spokesman says Allen is having a scan this morning to decide whether he will stay with the national squad for the game against Georgia on Sunday, October 9 or return to Stoke to prepare for the clash against Sunderland on Saturday, October 15.

Elsewhere Jon Walters started and Glenn Whelan was a late substitute as Ireland defeated Georgia 1-0 at the Aviva Stadium, and U23’s star Thibaud Verlinden featured as Belgium U19’s breezed past Kazakhstan 5-0.
