Port Vale looking to bounce back into playoff positions with home win against Charlton Athletic

Port Vale defender Kjell Knops is happy to play a midweek game this week as it allows him and his teammates to forget about the 4-0 hammering they received over the weekend.

Vale will be looking for their first win in their last three games at home as they face Charlton Athletic tonight at Vale Park (7.45pm).

Knops and the rest of the Vale side are happy to have a busy schedule this week as they want to forget what happened to them in Saturday’s shocker at Bramall Lane.

“Before the game we thought we had a chance but we knew it was going to be a difficult game because they have a good team, and also the crowd, ” said Knops.

“We played a good game at MK Dons and that gave us confidence to play in Sheffield so if you lose 4-0, that is a big disappointment.

“You have to react quite quickly, on Sunday you think about the game but on Monday, you have to think about another game and it’s good to play on Tuesday again.”

The Sky Bet League One side will be looking to get back into winning form this week against Charlton Athletic and  Dutch Defender Knops thinks it’s important that his side gain maximum points tonight to bounce back into the top six.

“It’s very important because if we get the three points then we still stay in the first six positions in the league,” said Knops.

“Of course when you play at home, you want to take all the points so the next two games are very important for this team.”

The defender has also commented on how the side will have to tighten up their defending to gain all three points.

He said: “In the first half, they got two goals from set pieces, which wasn’t good and we have to try to improve that before the next game.

“We had a couple of chances in the first half and if we scored one of them, it was going to be a different game.

“I think we have to look at the first 20 minutes because we played good.

“We have to bring that into the game on Tuesday and play better.”
