Port Vale assistant Paul Bodin calls for footballers to work hard for playoff spots

Port Vale assistant manager Paul Bodin has called on his team to “make the charge” into the playoff positions sooner rather than later.

Vale have 14 games to secure a spot in League One but are five points outside the playoff places.

They travel to Sheffield United on Saturday and the Valiants will be looking to leapfrog the Blades to seventh place.

Vale won the reverse tie earlier on this season and have had a strong run of form, losing just three of the last 10 games.

Bodin said he realises the threat Sheffield United and added: “It’s always a tough place to go but hopefully we’ve picked up their strengths and weaknesses.

‘‘We’re looking forward to it. We’re hoping we can put on a good performance try and keep them quiet.”

Vale are hampered with injuries with midfielder Louis Dodd remaining out following an injury to his heel, despite returning to training.

The 29-year-old had made appearances in 33 games this season.

Ryan Inniss remains sidelined with a shoulder injury whilst Enoch Andoh is suffering from a knee injury, keeping him out the line up.

Port Vale kick off against Sheffield United at 3pm at Bramall Lane on February 20.
