Kidsgrove Athletic manager Peter Ward is bemoaning his side’s defensive record ahead of their Evo-Stik League trip to Lincoln United.
The Grove lie fifteenth in the First Division South and are without a league win in six games since their 3-0 win at Stafford Rangers in January.
Peter Ward’s side have conceded 52 goals in the league this season and he isn’t shying away from that fact.
He said: “One of our concerns this season is that we are letting goals in, I think we’re averaging two a game which is criminal really.
“But we have got a few missing players defensively so when they come back in, I think that will strengthen us.”
Despite their defensive weaknesses, Kidsgrove Athletic have not had too much trouble finding the net with captain Anthony Malbon scoring 33 goals this season.
Ward said: “We’ve scored the same as Stafford Rangers who are 20 points clear at the top of the table so I think we have to find a balance.
And the manager believes his team are capable of causing problems for their opponents, who sit seventh in the table:
“We’re not going to change our approach to the match.
“We’re away from home so we’ll try and make it hard for them but we can certainly cause them a threat coming forward because that’s our strength.”
Kidsgrove slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Chasetown in their last match but now go on a run of four away games.
Defenders Danny Smith (flu) and Karl Espley (tonsillitis) are unavailable tomorrow whilst midfielder Ash Hodgkinson serves the final game of his suspension.
Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday, February 27, at Ashby Avenue.
