Staffordshire County Cricket have signed promising teenage fast bowler Jean Philander.
The 18-year-old paceman has worked with South African cricketing legend Allan Donald in recent years.
Donald was one of his generation’s greatest ever fast bowlers, taking more than 600 international wickets for South Africa.
That makes the signing of Philander quite a coup for Staffordshire.
The seamer had trials with a number of first class counties, and five other minor counties chased his signature.
The bowler is looking forward to joining his new team but does not hide his ambitions to strive for higher levels.
For now, Philander will have a leading role to play in Staffordshire’s pursuit of a second Minor Counties Title in three years.
And the bowler has his sights firmly set on playing for England in the future.
