Stoke-on-Trent City Councillor Paul Breeze dies

Stoke-on-Trent City Councillor Paul Breeze died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital last night (11 February) after being admitted earlier in the day.

The 62-year-old campaigner was reportedly found collapsed in a Hanley street yesterday afternoon.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Staffordshire Police confirmed they are not treating his death as suspicious.

The popular Birches Head and Central Forest Park councillor had recently joined the City Independents group.

Mr Breeze was first elected as a non-aligned councillor in 2003 until 2007, during which time he served as Deputy Mayor.

He was re-elected in 2011 as an unaligned councillor before joining the City Independents early last year.

A city council spokesperson said: “We are all shocked and saddened.

“Councillor Breeze was totally committed to improving the life of those that he represented and was passionate about the city.

“He will be missed by many and our deepest sympathies are with his family at this time.”
