A Stoke-on-Trent councillor revealed today he is resigning as a member of the Labour Group.
Cllr Neil Day told StaffsLive he felt unable to represent his Blurton West and Newstead residents any longer under Labour.
Cllr Day will remain as an Independent councillor in the ward until May 2015 when the seat will be contested in the local elections.
Cllr Day told StaffsLive: “I am unable to fulfil a pledge to the people that have elected me. I couldn’t do that in the current Labour Party.
“A fuller explanation and statement will be coming in the next few days.”
He was elected in 2011 with a 45.82% majority vote.
