The owner of the WaterWorld aqua park Mo Chaudry has suggested moving the attraction to the new retail development City Sentral.
The Stoke-on-Trent businessman said he believes the move away from Festival Park, where WaterWorld is based, could attract more than 500,000 people and help revive the plans for City Sentral.
Planning permission for the shopping centre expired and must be scaled down and re-submitted.
He said: “The City Sentral development is unlikely to succeed as a purely retail offering, due to changing shopping habits, the economic the climate, and competition from bigger retail centres in Birmingham and Manchester.
“That’s probably why the product has stalled.
“In my view the project needs to have a large leisure focus to generate footfall.”
