The accident, which happened at the Cobridge lights in Etruria, left a woman in her 50s with spinal injuries.
Two hatchback cars collided at the junction earlier today (November 23).
Fire crews from Hanley, Burslem and Longton were called out.
They had to cut the roof one vehicle to get the woman out, before paramedics put her onto a long board and took her to hospital.
Dez Stuttard, watch manager of Hanley Fire Station, said: “We are unsure how the accident actually occurred.
“The vehicle that has been impacted was being driven by a women in her 50s to 60s and had spinal injuries.
“Paramedics wanted her removed from the vehicle and onto a long board to exasperate those injuries.
“We removed the roof of the vehicle and the side of it to give us more access.”
