Hednesford Town signing hopes Pitmen make FA Cup progress

Hednesford Town new signing Paul McCone is disappointed to be missing out on their FA Cup game against Stamford.

But McCone is hoping  his new Pitmen team-mates can take the club into the next round.

McCone has joined the Skrill North league leaders from Southern Premier league side Stourbridge FC.

He said: “Unfortunately, I am cup-tied. Hopefully, it is a great occasion to make the first round of the FA Cup.

“I did it with my former club Stourbridge a couple of years ago and would love to be a part of it again.

“It creates a massive atmosphere around the place and it brings the town together.”

When at Stourbridge, McCone was part of the side in 2011 that beat Plymouth 2-0 and scored the first goal that day.

The Black Country side then went out to League One Stevenage in the next round, losing 3-0.

But McCone believes one of his new team-mates could go on to replicate his moment of glory.

“Oh definitely there are a few match winners in the team,” he added.

“All we need to do is do our job. If everyone plays how they can play there is no reason we can make the first round and go on.”

Victory for Hednesford could see them pitched against Wolves or Port Vale in the First Round proper.
