Hednesford Town close in on promotion as Leek Town hit six


Hednesford Town have moved three points closer to promotion in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Their 2-0 win over promotion rivals AFC Fylde at Keys Park came courtesy of David McPherson and Michael Lennon.

It moves the Pitmen just one point behind league leaders North Ferriby United.

In Evo-Stik 1st Division South, Leek Town ran in six goals as they beat basement club Hucknall 6-1.

Goals from Daniel Shelley, Tim Grice (2), Peter Wright (2) and Michael Thomas saw Leek come away with all three points. Hucknall bagged a consolation through Mitchell Slewton.

Chasetown were also winners as a goal from Nicholas Wellcomme was enough to earn them a 1-0 win over Northwich Victoria.

Newcastle Town were beaten 3-0 away to Stamford, goals from Daniel Brooks, James Ozman and Joseph Hemptenstall condemning Newcastle to defeat.

In North West Counties, Stone were beaten 3-0 at Winsford United through goals from Callam Gardner, Charlie Weir and Philip Drummond. Stone remain bottom of the North West Counties Premier Division.

On Monday night, Nantwich Town were beaten 3-0 away at Ilkeston FC in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, despite keeper Jon Brian saving a penalty.
