Man critical after A53 road smash in Baldwin’s Gate


A driver is fighting for his life after a road smash on the A53 at Baldwin’s Gate, near Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The two-vehicle accident happened near the junction of the A53 and Hollybush Lane.

It involved a blue Volkswagen Touareg and a blue Peugeot 206.

The man driving the Peugeot suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where he is in a critical condition.

The driver of the Volkswagen, also a man, was uninjured.

The road was closed by police after the accident at 7.30am today (January 30) while crash investigators examine the scene.

Witnesses are asked to contact Sgt Ian Revans at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 94 of January 30.
