Crewe Alexandra captain Luke Murphy has distanced himself from rumours linking him to Premiership neighbours Stoke City.
And the 23-year-old told StaffsLive he is fully focused on pushing the Alex up the npower League One table.
Murphy has netted six times this season after stepping into the captain’s role following the departure of Ashley Westwood to Premier League strugglers Aston Villa.
But after a string of impressive displays, he is now being tipped to follow Westwood and wonder kid Nick Powell out of the Gresty Road door and into the hands of a top flight team.
However, Murphy has insisted that he is happy to carry on leading the Alex up the League 1 table.
Murphy told us today: “I’ve not heard anything really, they’re just rumours.
“It’s obviously good to be linked to clubs in a higher division as it shows your doing well but I’m enjoying my football at the moment.
“I’m captain of the club I have played for since I was young so I try and not listen to any rumours and I just want to keep helping Crewe push up the league.”
With one day remaining in the transfer window, there is plenty of time for Premiership clubs to swoop.
But for now it’s obvious Murphy, who came through the ranks at Gresty Road, is happy to carry on as he has been doing this season.
