By Sophie Bowen: Staffordshire University’s women’s football team ended the first-half of their season with a hard fought 5-3 victory over Nottingham University 2nds.
Lori Evans led the way for Staffs with a hat-trick and the result means the 1sts remained undefeated at home this term.
Staffs took a first-half lead when Evans converted Hannah Woolfall’s pinpoint cross.
An own goal from an inswinging corner saw the lead extended after the break, and Evans made it 3-0 with the aid of a deflection.
Woolfall cashed in on some slack marking and made it 4-0 before Evans completed her hat-trick after some great work inside the penalty area.
Defender Lauren Gemmell said Staffs’ were not at their best after Nottingham launched a late revival and pulled three goals back.
She said:“It wasn’t the best of performances. We were on the back of a dodgy decision when the referee did not give an obvious handball that then led to their third goal.
“However, we are still getting the results and it’s a nice end to the semester to get another home win.”
