A group of people from a local church went reverse trick or treating and handed out sweets to residents in Burslem.

The group from Swan Bank Methodist Church took “bags of hope”, which contained sweets and leaflets about the church to homes on the Park Estate last night (October 31).

Lauren Sugden, a 22-year-old trainee teacher, said: “People have been surprised and some of them have been quite confused about what we’re doing. I don’t think anyone really expected this.

“It’s the first time I’ve been trick or treating and I think maybe I’m doing it wrong!”

Residents on the estate were surprised by the young people giving out sweets when most people knocking on their doors were asking for them.

One resident said: “I wasn’t sure if it was some kind of trick. It’s a really lovely thing they’re doing.”
