More than 100 people paid their respects to Shaun Hodgkinson at Christ Church in Tunstall, among a quiet and sombre atmosphere.
Many wore casual clothes like tracksuits and hoodies, as requested by the family.
The 26-year-old, of Holly Lane, Sandyford, died after being hit by a Toyota Avensis taxi while crossing the High Street in the early hours of Sunday October 27.
Flowers have been left at the scene of the crash where Sean was hit.
One read: “To Daddy, we love you lots and lots, to the moon and back. You’re the best daddy anyone could wish for. Big hugs and lots of kisses, Love from your baby girls.”
Mr Hodgkinson leaves behind partner Liz and their two young daughters, his mum and dad Paul and Jackie, brothers Stephen and Paul, and sister Donna.
The family said in a statement after the crash: “Our family is devastated by the loss of Shaun.
“He was a great son, brother, partner and father. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
Anyone with information is urged to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 175 of 27 October 2013.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with the accident until a date in December.
