Moscow City BalletMoscow City Ballet is set to perform in a Stoke-on-Trent theatre for the first time.

Their two most famous ballets, Swan Lake and Nutcracker, will be shown next month at the Regent Theatre, in Hanley.

Swan Lake will take place on Tuesday November 26 and 27, followed by Nutcracker on Thursday November 28.

Moscow City Ballet celebrates its silver anniversary, this year in the same year of the death of founder and choreographer Victor Smirnov-Golovanov.

It was founded in 1988 and is one of Russia’s most extensively touring ballet companies. It has won invitations to perform all over the world.

Victor believed classical ballet was a significant part of Russia’s national heritage. He aimed to bring it to as wide a public as possible.

Touring with over 40 dancers and accompanied by the national ballet orchestra, the company has performed 2,000 times already in the UK.

Victor’s wife Ludmila Neroubashchenko is now the artistic director and vows to preserve her husband’s productions.

She said: “It’s been an incredibly sad time for Moscow City Ballet with the passing of Victor, but we have found strength in the kind messages sent from people around the world.

“This season we celebrate our 25th anniversary, so we hope to commemorate it with a magical and entertaining tour in memory of Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, former Bolshoi Ballet soloist and distinguished choreographer.”

Tickets are now on sale and are available in person from The Regent Theatre Box Office, by calling 0844 871 7649 or visiting www.atgtickets.com/stoke
