By StaffsLive Reporter: Workers at the troubled Clinton Cards chain across Staffordshire are waiting to find out if their jobs will go as administrators announced plans to shut 350 stores.

Exact details of the shops which will go have yet to be confirmed, but Birthdays branches in Leek and Cannock – which are also owned by the company – will definitely close.

Administrators Zolfo Cooper confirmed that around 350 of the 784 Clinton Cards-owned shops would go.

The move is designed to make the business a more appealing proposition to potential buyers.

Joint administrator Peter Saville said: “Given the sheer size of the Clinton Cards retail estate and the overall performance, we were left with no alternative to today’s difficult decision.

“I am hopeful that the action we have taken will allow us to preserve value in the core underlying business, thereby allowing us and potential buyers to focus on a profitable and viable retail estate going forward.”

Alongside the two Birthdays outlets, Clinton Cards operates 11 stores across Staffordshire.
