By Ann-Marie Keegan and Jack Dowling: Roy Hodgson is expected to be named the new England manager after talks with the FA.

The FA was given permission to speak to Hodgson about the vacant position by Hodgson’s current club, West Brom.

The 64-year-old has plenty of previous international experience with Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Finland, and had expressed his desire to manage the English national side.

Stoke-based England fans believe it is Hodgson’s desire which makes him an ideal candidate for the position.

But Hodgson’s likely appointment comes as a surprise to many, with Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp the overwhelming favourite to take up the reins.

Listen to reaction from Stoke-on-Trent fans.
