Student drama group race to put on shows
By Naina Rishiraj : The society perform two different shows in March and April – a straight play and a musical.
First to perform, are the straight actors who are taking on an Alan Ayckbourn classic ‘Joking Apart’. The play centres on couple Richard and Anthea who believe their world is a bubble of perfection. But what happens when their world is everyone else’s nightmare? Will the couple realise in time that their caring nature is ruining their friends’ lives – or will it be too late?
Student Michael Redford, who is directing with colleague Jack Daly, told Staffs Live: “We’ve only had 7 weeks to piece this production together. It’s been a challenge but we’re proud of our cast and can’t wait to see them perform.”
After the success of last semester’s murder mystery, ‘Murdered to Death’, the directors certainly have something to live up to.
“Last year we had a great audience turn out and The Sentinel came to review us too. We hope we live up to audience expectations again.”
Ryan Davies who plays Sven Holmenson, a former tennis star, says he loves his character: “He’s funny and a bit of a drama queen!”
Want to see more? Opening night is tonight (16th March). The show is at Stoke On Trent Sixth Form College until Sunday (18th).
Tickets are just £5 each (£4 NUS) for all shows and are available on the door.
