Potteries Museum nominated for Telegraph family award
By Joe Turner: The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery is in the running for the Telegraph Friendly Family Museum Award 2012.
The venue. which has reached the last six in the previous two years, has made it down to last 20.
Judges including Heritage Lottery Fund chairperson Jenny Abramsky will visit each museum before deciding who moves onto the shortlist.
Cllr Mark Meredith, cabinet member for economic development, said: “The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery deserves the recognition for its exceptional work to engage with children and their families.
“The museum has hosted a large number of events which demonstrate just how family friendly they are. To be nominated for a national award of this calibre is a testament to those staff that provide this service.”
Kids In Museums teamed up with poet and broadcaster Michael Rosen to launch the awards.
Museums must be innovative and “Imaginative, innovative and exclusive” to keep children involved, and the shortlist will have a judging panel of families to truly prove their worth and find the winner.
This year more than 100 museums were nominated before being whittled down.
The final six will be announced in April in the Telegraph newspaper and on its website. The winner will be announced in May.
