By Chris Allen: A moped rider has died after a collision with a lorry on the A38 between Lichfield and Alrewas.

Police are trying to trace the HGV which failed to stop at the scene at 5.25am today (February 21).

The dead man has not been formally identified but is believed to be in his 20s and from the Lichfield area.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the incident happened just north of the Streethay junction.

It’s believed the HGV involved has a red and black cab.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision or saw the white Yamaha 50cc moped travelling on the A38.

The northbound carriageway is closed from Cappers Lane to the Alrewas junction while officers carry out investigations.

Witnesses are asked to ring Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 68.
