Stoke-on-Trent residents given first view of city regeneration project

By James Pearse & Rita Siddiqui: Shoppers in Stoke-on-Trent have been given a first look at a multi-million pound transformation of public spaces in the city centre.

The work is part of a refurbishment of streets over the next few years.

Council representatives have been in the Potteries Shopping Centre this week to encourage the public to give their comments on the new proposals.

The city centre developments are designed to complement other major regeneration schemes such as the Central Business District and the £350 million shopping and leisure complex City Sentral.

After speaking to some residents, StaffsLive found that people were worried their opinions on the scheme were not being heard.

But Annita Gibson, Stoke-On-Trent Council’s team manager for landscape development, reassured locals.

“I think it’s too early to say about whether it’s been taken on board,” she said. “I’d like to think we have taken the comments on board.

“I think the problem is that the process is such a long time between the consultation and actually starting work on the site.”

Although the consultation period has officially come to an end, people are still encouraged to post their comments online.
