Staffordshire trio break record for the world’s longest taxi ride
By Kelsey Purnell: Three men from Staffordshire have broken the world record for the longest ever taxi journey.
Leigh Purnell, Johno Ellison and Paul Archer drove from London to Sydney in a black cab, travelling across 42 countries as part of their It’s on the Meter challenge.
The It’s on the Meter team have travelled across 42 countries and have broken the world record for the longest taxi journey in history.
Setting off in February, they embarked on a trip of a lifetime all in the aid of The British Red Cross charity, finally returning home 10 months later.
Leigh explained: “We’ve seen places we never imagined we would visit, but we are fortunate enough to be given the chance to take part in another amazing opportunity.”
The lads have recently been sponsored by a new company called ‘GetTaxi’ to carry on the journey, advertising a new smartphone application.
Flying out to San Francisco in mid-January, the team will endure another 11 week road trip through the United States, finishing in London in April.
