Shoppers in Newcastle-under-Lyme given White Ribbon Day advice
By Lee Kettle: A roadshow in Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre has been raising awareness of domestic violence issues as part of national White Ribbon Day.
Officials from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and from temporary housing group Arch (North Staffs) were on hand to give advice to shoppers.
The roadshow trailer, situated just outside the Guildhall, had posters and leaflets raising awareness and there were also stalls inside the Roebuck Shopping Centre.

A series of events have taken place in the town throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Week, which started on Monday (November 21).
A film documenting the effects of domestic violence, which was part of a campaign by both Newcastle Safer Communities, Stoke-on-Trent Safer City Partnership and its partners, had been aired inside both Revolution and Ikon bars in the town.
Posters were also displayed inside the Vue cinema complex.
White Ribbon Day is held every year to highlight the campaign to end violence against women and girls.
Newcastle was awarded White Ribbon status in April this year for its work to combat violence against women and children.
In Newcastle alone, there were 121 incidents of domestic violence between April and October 2011, compared to 408 in Stoke-on-Trent.
Councillor Gwen Hassall, cabinet member for housing and neighbourhoods, added: “It’s important people realise the impact domestic violence can have.
“They need to be aware that there are systems and people in place who can help them, without judgement or predetermined opinions.
“Support networks like this are essential for people to feel confident enough to come forward and get the help they need.”
