Staffordshire University student scoops national film award
A student from Staffordshire University claimed first prize in a national film competition after entering it purely as a ‘punt’.
Tom Chimiak, 19, a second year Film Production student in Stoke-on-Trent, came first in his category at the film festival ‘Screen Stockport’.
New categories confirmed for Stoke Your Fires film festival
Changes have been announced for next year’s Stoke Your Fires film festival.
The four weeks between February 10 to 24 will include a new open film commission section to provide support for budding filmmakers. A music video category has also been confirmed.
New YMCA complex to open in Stoke-on-Trent
A new YMCA complex is set to be open in Stoke-on-Trent at the start of 2012.
The site will be split into zones and boast a range of facilities including a library, learning zone, gym and a large sports hall and will also be home to Stoke-on-Trent’s tallest climbing wall.

Stoke City have been knocked out of the Carling Cup after suffering their second defeat in four days as they were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium.
The Potters took the lead in the first half courtesy of a Kenwyne Jones header but were undone by two Luis Suarez goals in the second period.

The four-piece made up of Aston, JB, Marvin and Oritsé visited the Signal 1 studios in Shelton as part of their ongoing radio tour around the country.
Eight teenagers arrested over Lichfield assault
Eight teenagers have been arrested in connection with an assault on two men in Staffordshire.
The men suffered facial injuries in the incident, which took place at 12.45am on October 16 in Cathedral Walk, Lichfield.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a two-vehicle collision on the A51 near Hixon left two elderly women with serious injuries.
A blue Audi A4 and a silver Vauxhall Meriva collided at 4.45pm on October 22 at approximately 4.45pm near the junction with New Road.
